Choose data, calls and device compatibility
A compatible unlocked phone and a suitable data plan can support maps and your saved route; verify compatibility before paying. A useful preflight test: can you show the hotel’s Korean address, open the saved map and reach the restaurant if mobile data fails? Download those details over Wi-Fi first. If a reservation needs a Korean identity check, do not assume that buying a Korean phone number alone will satisfy it.

Save your hotel address and airport route offline before changing SIM settings. Keep access to the home number needed for bank codes.

Check the chosen plan’s final tax-inclusive amount, validity start, data-speed conditions and device compatibility. Outgoing calls on its voice service are listed at KRW 264/minute and SMS at KRW 55 each; voice credit can be extra. Avoid paying for voice if maps and email meet your needs.

No data? Check these before deleting an eSIM
A tourist SIM, receiving an SMS and Korean identity verification are different services. A Korean number alone does not establish resident identity for banking or government apps. If data fails, stay on Wi-Fi, confirm activation and the selected mobile-data line, then follow the operator’s APN instructions or ask support. Do not delete an eSIM profile before support checks whether it can be reinstalled. A staffed airport counter and a compatible physical SIM are fallbacks, not guaranteed free replacements.
