T-money and the subway: plan the final connection

A stored-value card suits ordinary city journeys; compare special passes against your actual routes, not the number of sightseeing days. Write your actual legs first: hotel → chosen place → meal → hotel. Check the fare and pass coverage for each leg, then compare their sum with the pass price plus any card cost and excluded journeys. Do not count taps as separate paid rides or assume a pass covers an airport leg.

Do not assume airport express trains, intercity trains or every special service are included in a city pass.

Look up the final train that completes every transfer to your hotel. A line’s last departure may terminate before your stop.

Seoul subway adult card base fare is KRW 1,550, with distance and special-service supplements. Six separate base-fare journeys cost KRW 9,300. A 3-day Climate Card costs KRW 10,000 plus KRW 3,000 for a new physical card: KRW 13,000 before any payment fees or excluded journeys. Nine base-fare journeys cost KRW 13,950. These are planning comparisons, not a universal break-even rule: count charged journeys, not transfer taps. A T-money card’s purchase price is separate from its travel balance.

In heavy rain choose the shorter outdoor exit route where accessible; an underground station does not guarantee a step-free connection.

Climate Card short-term prices: 1/2/3/5/7 days cost KRW 5,000/8,000/10,000/15,000/20,000, before physical-card cost. Validity begins on the recharge date, not at the first ride; days are not rolling 24-hour periods. Check route coverage, especially airport direction and special lines. If a card or foreign payment fails, use station staff or a single-journey ticket and keep cash for ordinary top-ups. Prepaid 30-day recharging ended on 2026-08-31; do not buy from an old monthly-pass comparison.
