Choose a Seoul Base by Your Places—and Your Way Back

Pick Jongno/Anguk for repeated old-city visits, Hongdae for a west-Seoul-centered stay, or Gangnam for frequent southeast-Seoul plans. Compare the exact hotel-to-first-stop route; a district name does not tell you the number of stairs or transfers.

Do not pay more for a famous neighborhood if your saved places are mostly across the city. A cheaper room can cost more in taxis, and a photogenic residential alley can be a poor late-night meeting point.

Test two routes before booking: hotel → your most important daytime stop and evening finish → hotel. For a Namsan evening, include the descent before the last train. For old-city walks, finish near a usable station rather than walking into restricted Bukchon residential lanes after hours.

Compare room total + actual daily return journeys + luggage/airport transfers. Add late taxi quotes if you expect to miss transit. Two Seoul adult subway base fares are KRW 3,100 before distance surcharges, but this is not a citywide daily pass or an airport fare. Do not treat that minimum as your full accommodation-area budget.

Keep a wet-day option in your chosen area: an open museum, shopping venue or seated meal. Confirm its own hours and fee. A neighborhood with a nearby indoor fallback can be more useful than a distant landmark with a stronger screen association.
